NTA-UGC NET
General Information
The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by the NTA on behalf of UGC to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Assistant Professor or Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor roles in Indian universities and colleges.
- Candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor are not considered for the Junior Research Fellowship.
- Qualifying candidates for Assistant Professor must adhere to the recruitment rules of the respective universities/colleges/state governments.
Conditions of Eligibility
Candidates need at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent in specified fields to be eligible for the test. Different percentage criteria apply for OBC, SC, ST, and PWD candidates.
Age Limit
- Junior Research Fellowship: Maximum age is 30 years with relaxations for certain categories and women applicants.
- Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.
Scheme of the Test
The UGC-NET consists of two papers conducted in objective mode on the same day. Paper I assesses teaching/research aptitude, while Paper II is based on the candidate’s chosen subject.
- Paper I: 100 marks, 50 MCQs, 3 hours duration.
- Paper II: 200 marks, 100 MCQs based on the subject selected.
Important Information
The test for Science subjects under CSIR is conducted jointly with UGC for JRF/Assistant Professor eligibility. Candidates interested in Science subjects should appear for the UGC-CSIR national level test.
- The UGC Test for JRF/Assistant Professor will be held at specified University Test Centres.
- Registration should be done at the nearest centre, and changes are not allowed.
